Kyle+Emily

10 Oct

I think it is safe to say that Kyle and Emily are crazy about each other! Can’t you just hear their laughter? I loved every moment of this session. They were constantly making each other (not to mention me) laugh to the point of tears and it was a delight to capture. Oh and don’t you just love her shoes? Too cute. I have the honor of being their wedding photographer on October 16 and couldn’t be more excited!

This post was made possible by my dad, Snow. See, my father likes to tell everyone what his kids are doing. And I mean everyone. Well it just so happens that he ran into Emily and Kyle during breakfast months and months ago. Emily had gone to school with my siblings so naturally my dad gave her the full update on what us kids were up to. He mentioned I was a photographer and sure enough Emily remembered even several weeks later. She decided to contact me and the rest is history.

So thank you dad for all the times you brag about your kids. It certainly pays off.

Quarter Century

8 Oct

A birthday weekend well spent. Family, friends, a concert I danced my heart out at, the most delicious food and to top it all off the launch of my website.

The first quarter of my life has been full of blessings. This is only the beginning.

J+L=Z

23 Sep

I knew from the moment Liz told me she was pregnant that I HAD to take pictures of her and the baby once he arrived. As a fellow coworker and friend of Liz, I had the opportunity to watch her belly grow. Such a miracle! September was finally here and baby Zavier was expected to arrive on the 17th. In the comfort of their own home Liz and her husband Javi were so much fun to photograph, not to mention gorgeous! It was such a blessing to see out of the corner of my eye Javi’s face light up as he watched his wife looking as beautiful as ever in front of my camera. As it turns out, Zavier just couldn’t wait to meet his parents because the very next week he arrived on September 6, which just happened to be Labor Day! What a day to be born eh? If we would have waited any longer we would have missed such a sweet opportunity to document Liz’s pregnancy.

So without further ado, I give you Javi, Liz, and “soon to be” Zavier Benjamin.

Now you’ll have to wait for the baby pictures. But I can tell you one thing, he’s absolutely perfect.

The Presence of People

21 Sep

Well, I never thought I would become a wedding/lifestyle photographer. Truth be told I never imagined I would be photographing people at all. At the beginning of my photography education I was (and naturally am) a very quiet person so the idea of taking “still lifes”  had suited me perfectly. I enjoyed being in control of every detail and best of all I didn’t have to talk! But I reached the point where the stills became lifeless. I wanted something more out of photography. In 2008, I had the opportunity to go on a missions trip to Nepal with my grandfather. It was there that a whole new facet of photography opened up for me. I was captivated by the people and the connection I made with them through the lens. I finally realized what my pictures had been missing, the powerful presence of people.

Thoughts of ever becoming a wedding photographer were quickly shot down in my mind. I convinced myself I didn’t have what it would take especially under all that pressure! But oh how I admired the magic other photographers would capture as I started to follow a few blogs. With a nudge from some good friends and support from my family I decided to give weddings a shot. Little did I know God had been preparing me all along the way with the confidence to take on this great feat. It’s amazing how things line up! Here I am eight weddings, a handful of engagement and family sessions later amazed at how far I have come since January. This experience has certainly drawn me out of my shell and I couldn’t be more grateful.

I know that going forth with this business there will be struggles, mistakes will be made, and it won’t always be easy. I still honestly have so much to learn. However, experiencing that magic captured when I put two people head over heels for each other or the love of a family in front of my camera makes it all worthwhile. Plus, I am backed by the grace of God. I am so excited to see where I will go and for all the challenges along the way.

I invite you to come along this journey with me and experience the presence of people through my lens.
